Church of the Nativity

The Church of the Nativity keeps a humble entrance and a deep quiet over the grotto. Pilgrims bend to go in. Beneath the basilica a silver star marks the place the world has pointed to for centuries as the birth of Christ. Lamps hang low; stone holds the cool of the earth.

A pilgrim of Palomeya goes down those steps with your names. The rite is offered in the church that holds the grotto — a personal journey, not a parish act. Palomeya does not speak for the shrine. It only sends a person who will stand there, remain for the prayer, and come up again into the light of Manger Square.
